center ice
the central area of an ice hockey rink, typically marked by a red line
Center ice is the area in the middle of an ice hockey rink, located between the two blue lines. It marks the dividing line between the two halves of the rink: the defensive zones and the offensive zones. Center ice is an important area for faceoffs, which occur at the start of the game, after a goal is scored, and after certain stoppages in play. Players often fight for control of the puck here, as it is a key position for transitioning between offense and defense. Center ice helps organize the game and creates opportunities for scoring and defense.
